The June program at Abbey Gardens welcomes students in Grades 1 and 2 to an exciting adventure filled with discovery and exploration. This hands-on experience allows children to dive into nature, learn about plant life, and participate in activities that spark their curiosity. With a strong focus on environmental awareness, this program offers a fun and educational way to embrace the beauty of changing seasons.
Program Overview
The June program at Abbey Gardens can accommodate up to 40 participants. With a registration cost of only $15.00 to $18.00 per student, it stands out as an affordable option for families. Importantly, teachers and adult supervisors can join free of charge, ensuring a supportive and enriching learning environment for all involved.
Arrival and Introduction
The day begins at 9:30 AM, with participants welcomed warmly upon their arrival at Abbey Gardens. After a brief introduction and a much-needed washroom break, children are set up for a day full of excitement, helping them feel comfortable and ready to explore.
Garden Quest
One of the highlights of the day is the Garden Quest, a garden-based scavenger hunt that gets students excited to explore their surroundings. Children will look for specific plants, natural items, and engage with their peers. For instance, they might search for distinct leaves, colorful flowers, or even a buzzing bee. This interactive activity enhances observation skills and encourages appreciation for the beauty found in nature.

Snack and Group Division
At 10:45 AM, students will enjoy a well-deserved snack break. Abbey Gardens provides nutritious snack options, ensuring everyone is fueled for the next activities. Once the snack break wraps up, the group will split into two smaller teams, allowing for more focused participation in either the Garden Program or EarthWalk.
Garden Program
The Garden Program enriches students' understanding of what plants need to thrive. Engaging activities include the Big Slurp/Sugar Shuffle game, where they learn about the importance of water and nutrients for plants in a fun, interactive way. Additionally, children will participate in a captivating story that connects to their interests, fostering deeper engagement. A personal highlight is planting a seed that each child can take home, instilling not only knowledge about plant growth but also a sense of responsibility and connection to nature.

EarthWalk
In the EarthWalk segment, students participate in sensory experiences that heighten their awareness of nature. They will engage with various textures, listen to the sounds of rustling leaves, and observe the vibrant colors around them. For instance, feeling the rough bark of a tree or hearing the chirping of birds enhances their observational skills and curiosity about the environment.

Lunch Break
At noon, students gather for lunch, bringing their own meals. This time allows for social interaction as they refuel. The mud kitchen offers a creative space for hands-on exploration, and children can delight in the chance to visit and feed chickens and ducks, enriching their experience with the animals.
Afternoon Activities
After lunch, students will switch groups and revisit either the Garden Program or EarthWalk, giving everyone an opportunity to fully engage with both activities for a well-rounded experience of the day’s topics.
Group Hike to Enchanted Forest
At 1:30 PM, the group embarks on a hike to the Enchanted Forest. This adventure provides vital physical activity and allows children to engage with various trails. Along the way, they have the chance to observe different plants and local wildlife, building a better understanding of diverse ecosystems.
Free Play in the Enchanted Forest
Once they arrive at the Enchanted Forest, students enjoy 30 minutes of free play. This unstructured time encourages creativity as children explore, climb trees, or play games. This nurturing environment inspires them to connect with nature on their own terms.

Departure
As the day wraps up at 2:30 PM, students prepare for departure with an unforgettable experience in their hearts. They leave Abbey Gardens not only with a planted seed but also with cherished memories of learning about plant growth and the wonders of nature. This program cultivates a love for the outdoors and encourages curiosity that will last well into their future.
